Established in 2012, MamaSia was created out of the need to share ancient African beauty and wellbeing ingredients with a wider audience. We emphasize on the raw elements of Shea Butter, Coco Butter, Moringa, Baobab and more, as well as various exotic oils. We raise awareness on why natural resources are beneficial for one’s general wellbeing, as well as highlighting the environmental benefits and the social impact on the community that MamaSia serves.


Knowing The Source: We take pride in the fact that our close knit family connections enable you direct access to the source, through the produce. The products will take you on a journey from their incubation in the soil, preparation and packaging, by us for you.


Community Integrity: The MamaSia traditions are the cornerstone of the brand, with community affairs being at the heart of it. Naturally, we pride ourselves on being able to continue to be a part of a community, from business to personal and social needs.


Respecting the Inner Self: We believe empowerment is an internal force, that comes from deep within the individual and exudes externally. Our aim is to uplift and help others express all aspects of their beauty, which is a basic human right.


Being Balanced With Nature: We aim to uphold the true laws intended by nature, by practising sustainability that has been passed down to us through various traditions. We encourage others to be at one with nature and we acknowledge that every living being has a basic need to be able to express themself freely and positively.

MEET THE founders

The Awesome people behind the brand

Maame’s vison is to help encourage the sustainable movement & social responsibility, whilst inspiring women to embrace their individuality and natural beauty.

Her desire to make natural beauty products came from an early age. She was always eager and present to learn from her family and community elders in Ghana the hidden science of beauty therapy and health treatments passed down from generation to generation. After having experienced a bad case of adult acne, Maame was encouraged by her mother to revisit ingredients such as Black Soap and Hibiscus Oil. It was also the time in her life when she found her purpose to serve her community and to help others use the same formulas for their natural healing journey. Maame has gone on to become a qualified Beauty Therapist and Wellness Coach.

Outside of work, Maame takes pleasure in the arts and theatre productions and loves the Kora (A west African instrument similar to the harp).

Sam vision’s is to be a humanitarian, by using her work to empower people around the world, especially women, to make healthy choices internally and externally.

Sam’s family lands, are based in Ethiopia and Senegal. Sam learnt about natural beauty products from her mother, who was always insistent on teaching her about the natural world.

Sam’s mother travelled the world and ended up settling in Senegal. It was there she acquired a farm land. With the help of her new formed community, she was able plant 5,000 Moringa trees which has become one MamaSia’s main suppliers.

After meeting Maame through a mutual friend, the pair discovered that they had more than just the average friendship in common. They realised their upbringing and interests were so similar, it was only natural to join their resources and create MamaSia.

Rhian Letang

COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR

Rhian’s vision is focused on philanthropy, and she wants to unlock the potential of businesses within wellbeing and beauty industry.

Over the years, Rhian has been investing her energy into natural health and wellness principles. MamaSia completely resonates with her soul and enables her to continue her journey of discovery into nature and the beauty that she feels people miss in their everyday lives.

MamaSia’s ethos to help support women is at the core of her being and to be able to be part of a company that is centred on giving back is her dream and fulfils her purpose in life.

Rhian loves the family values and the inclusiveness of the community. She is hoping to merge the lands of her family (St Lucia) with the lands of her ancestors (Ghana) where her St Lucian heritage has been traced back to.

Alhasaan’s vision is to inspire the younger generation of his community and teach sustainability through mentoring, using the MamaSia Values


Alhasaan has always had a fascination with natural ingredients. After growing up in Ghana as a child, Alhasaan would be amazed at how the women from his family would collect, produce and then sell their products in the market.

MamaSia provides Alhasaan with a natural path to revisit his childhood whilst making a difference in the world through sustainability, natural beauty, and wellbeing.

Alhasaan’s interests outside work include socialising, reading, working with the community elders, and assisting in youth initiatives in Larbanga and the Gonja District.

Aquilla’s vision is to show women especially mothers that the beauty and wellness industry is a place to sharpen your skills and increase them and beautify not only your body but your mind too.


Aquilla has really enjoyed working at MamaSia and seeing how the brand gets across to their customers and followers, through their products, that they not only care about how you look but how you feel and function.

Aquilla wants to emulate MamaSia’s purpose of Share, Assist and Inspire and help to give women and mothers access to opportunities they didn’t think were possible.

WHAT IS SHEA BUTTER?

The Karite Tree is MamaSia’s true home

and where her heart is...

The Shea Butter tree (The Karite Tree) is only found in the tropics of West and Eastern Africa, where it often grows to a height of over 45 ft. The Shea Butter is made from the nuts of the tree which begins to bear fruit after about 15 years and can take 30 to 50 years to bear a quality crop of nuts with a high content of irremovable fatty acid. The nuts of the Shea tree are normally harvested during the rainy season and sun dried over a long period afterward. Once sufficiently dried, the nuts are crushed and pounded into a powder. The powder is then, mashed into a pulp and then boiled, the whole process can take up to four-five days to create the Shea butter one knows and loves. The traditional process is done predominately by hand, keeping the ingredient in its authentic state as practiced for centuries in Africa.

Shea Butter has become one of the most sought after elements in cosmetics and personal care solutions because its entire contents are made up of pure vitamins. We define it as nature's gift to anyone that wants to treat their body with pure goodness.

MORINGA

Moringa has over 80 nutrients: including vitamin A, E, and F, not to mention it is naturally high in vitamin C which means it is great for the immune system. Moreover, the plant’s components contain high protein, fibre, and mineral content and it is used throughout Asia and Africa to treat malnutrition and other disorders. Moringa has increasingly become a sought after ingredient in people's diets and for its benefits.


Moringa comes in a variety of forms, leaf (tea), oil, and seeds. The oil makes a magnificent beauty treatment ideal for moisturising, massage, or even as a facial cleansing oil. It is also excellent as a hair conditioner and some use it in their foods.
